Back in Week 1, we explored two tapping patterns on a single string. This week, we’ll expand with two more single-string patterns, and then apply tapping across all six strings.
Examples 1–5 (20 minutes)
Let’s get into it:
We will practice these patterns on all strings later.
Ex 1–5 (20 minutes)
2. Here’s one of the pentatonic scale patterns we learnt in Week 1 (Pattern 1), but now we will play it on all strings.
3.This is Pattern 2 on all strings.
4. Here’s a nice descending diatonic idea based on Pattern 3. This is the full version using all 6 strings.
5. Here’s Pattern 4 across all strings.
Alright, so now let’s play some more advanced stuff. A cool way to play arpeggios is with tapping. They will sound much more clear than with sweep picking—almost like a lead keyboard sound.
Let’s go through 4 different types of arpeggios with 7ths: Minor, Major, Dominant, and Diminished.
Ex 6–15 (40 minutes)
6. Here’s the Em7 arpeggio:
7. Here’s the Emaj7 arpeggio:
8. Here’s the E7 arpeggio:
9. Here’s the E diminished (Eº) arpeggio:
These next ones are arpeggios with some extended notes.
10. Here’s an E minor 11th arpeggio (Em11):
11. Now let’s add the 6th to E minor:
12. Here’s an E major 9th add 6th (Emaj9add6):
13. Here’s an E dominant 7th flat 9 arpeggio (E7b9):
14. Here’s another dominant chord variation: E7b9b5
15. This is the last example—another altered dominant 7th: E7b13b9
